Job Overview:
The Nutrition Cluster Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Chief of Field Operations and Emergency of UNICEF South Sudan. This role involves providing leadership and representation for the Nutrition Cluster in South Sudan, ensuring a well-coordinated and effective response to the humanitarian crisis. The Coordinator will build relationships with stakeholders, secure coordination of sectoral responses, and ensure inter-sectoral collaboration. The position requires strategic leadership and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve shared goals in a complex humanitarian environment. The Coordinator will also be responsible for needs assessment, strategic response planning, resource mobilization, and strengthening national and local capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator include:
  • Providing leadership and representation for the Nutrition Cluster to ensure timely and effective responses.
  • Supervising the Cluster/Sector/Working Group coordination team.
  • Conducting needs assessments and analysis to inform strategic planning.
  • Engaging in resource mobilization and advocacy efforts.
  • Implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of the Cluster's response.
  • Ensuring accountability to affected populations.
  • Strengthening national and local capacities to enhance the overall response to nutrition-related issues in South Sudan.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or humanitarian assistance and development. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, or related areas is required, preferably at the international level. Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management within a UN agency is considered an asset. Experience in humanitarian coordination and contexts is essential, while experience in development contexts is an added advantage.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or another health-related science field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of nutrition and health in humanitarian settings.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in relevant fields, with a preference for candidates who have worked at the international level. Experience in nutrition planning and management, maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care, and health/nutrition program/project development is essential. Candidates with experience in humanitarian coordination systems and contexts will be prioritized, while those with development context experience will have an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English and the official UN language of the duty station is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
