Job Overview: The Information Management Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing multi-sector emergency information management in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. This position is vital for establishing efficient information management systems that support coordination structures and provide high-quality analytical products to guide humanitarian responses. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that data collection, analysis, and reporting are conducted effectively across various sectors, thereby facilitating informed decision-making in emergency situations. The role requires active participation in zonal-level coordination meetings and collaboration with various stakeholders, including government offices, UN agencies, and partners, to ensure that information is shared and utilized effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Management Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Multi-Sector Coordination Support: Participating in zonal-level coordination meetings, supporting the development and maintenance of information management systems for emergency coordination, and facilitating information sharing among stakeholders.
Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting: Establishing systems for regular data collection, compiling monthly reports, analyzing emergency data, and producing timely analytical products such as situation reports and dashboards.
Mapping, GIS, and Visualization: Producing maps to visualize affected populations and service gaps, maintaining GIS layers, and providing geographic analysis for operational planning.
Needs Assessment and Monitoring: Supporting joint needs assessments, tracking and analyzing needs and response coverage, and coordinating monitoring missions.
Capacity Building: Training government and partner staff in relevant tools and strengthening data systems at zonal and woreda levels.
Knowledge Management: Maintaining documentation repositories, developing guidance notes, and promoting the dissemination of lessons learned and best practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in information management, data analysis, and emergency response. They should have experience in coordinating with multiple stakeholders and be proficient in data collection and reporting methodologies. Familiarity with GIS tools and mapping techniques is essential, as well as the ability to train others in these areas. Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce high-quality reports and visualizations are also required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in information management, data science, statistics, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role. Specialized training in data analysis, GIS, and emergency management will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in information management, data analysis, or a related field, particularly in humanitarian or emergency response contexts. Experience working with UN agencies or NGOs in similar roles will be highly regarded. The ability to work in complex and challenging environments, as well as experience in capacity building and training, is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Oromia Region, such as Afaan Oromo, is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage for effective communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Nekemte, the capital of the East Wollega Zone. The selected volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The living conditions in Ethiopia can vary, and the volunteer must be familiar with these conditions.
