Job Overview: The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Area Coordinator is tasked with the overall leadership and coordination of Solidarités International’s operations in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. This role involves ensuring the effective and high-quality implementation of programs, with a strong focus on both programmatic and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security aspects. The Area Coordinator must ensure compliance with SI procedures and donor requirements, support operational continuity, and collaborate closely with mission coordinators to enhance field operations and coordination. The position is critical in navigating the challenges posed by recent funding cuts and the evolving security situation in the region, requiring a proactive approach to stabilize operations and maintain effective program delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Area Coordinator will be responsible for several key duties, including:
Leading the overall coordination of SI’s operations in Cabo Delgado, ensuring effective program implementation and adherence to security protocols.
Monitoring and evaluating ongoing projects in Pemba, Mueda, and Mocímboa da Praia, ensuring they meet the needs of the affected populations.
Supporting the closure of ending projects and preparing for the start-up of new initiatives, particularly in the transition period between February and March 202
Adapting and strengthening security management protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure staff safety and operational effectiveness.
Clarifying roles, workflows, and coordination mechanisms between different bases and departments to enhance operational efficiency.
Collaborating with Project Managers and the Grants Department to support proposal development for new projects.
Strengthening relationships with provincial and district authorities and key partners to facilitate collaboration and support for SI’s mission.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian action, development, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, or a related technical area pertinent to the humanitarian sector. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0 to 2 years in a similar position. Strong project cycle management skills, solid security management capabilities, and excellent writing, synthesis, and reporting skills are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate leadership and team management abilities in complex environments, along with strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian action, development, international law, or any other technical area related to the humanitarian sector. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian operations and effectively leading initiatives in challenging environments.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with specific experience in a similar role being beneficial. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. The role is based in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, with frequent travel to field bases in Mueda and Mocímboa da Praia. The salary for this position starts at EUR 3,190 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 2,900 and a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation costs and travel expenses. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package that covers healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions in Pemba are described as good for expatriates, with stable utilities and reliable internet access. The organization implements a system of alternating work and time off, allowing for breaks every three months, along with additional rest days for each month worked.
