Job Overview: The Madrid System Business Development Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing the utilization of the Madrid System among corporate users, trademark practitioners, and key industry stakeholders in India. This position requires the consultant to develop partnerships, engage in direct marketing activities, and leverage data analytics to identify and prioritize engagement opportunities. The consultant will be responsible for establishing WIPO's presence in the Indian IP ecosystem and driving the adoption of the Madrid System. The role involves strategic partnership development, user engagement, event promotion, and market intelligence gathering, all aimed at increasing awareness and usage of the Madrid System in India.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several core business development activities, including:
Strategic Partnership Development: Establishing and executing a comprehensive business development strategy to build WIPO's presence in India's IP community. This includes developing local partnerships with key stakeholder organizations such as IP associations, industry chambers, and corporate IP departments.
Strategic User Engagement: Preparing and executing targeted marketing and outreach activities to connect with current and potential users of the Madrid System, including arranging meetings with trademark practitioners and corporate users.
Event Development and Promotion: Identifying and organizing marketing events to generate business and raise awareness of the Madrid System, including coordinating with local experts for event participation.
Localized Marketing Campaigns: Supporting the implementation of digital marketing campaigns tailored to the Indian market and developing promotional materials.
Market Intelligence and Feedback: Gathering market intelligence on India's IP ecosystem and providing insights on policy developments and user feedback. The consultant must achieve specific performance metrics each quarter, including user engagement, partnership development, and promotional activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in business administration, marketing, international business, law, public policy, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in business development, partnership development, or policy engagement roles is required. Knowledge of India's IP ecosystem, including key stakeholders and market dynamics, is essential. Candidates should have a proven network among industry associations and demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management at senior levels. Experience in organizing business events and a solid understanding of trademark registration processes are also necessary. Desirable qualifications include a background in legal, IP, or trademark-related environments and knowledge of the Madrid System for international trademark registration.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in fields such as business administration, marketing, international business, law, or public policy. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of business development and intellectual property management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience. This experience should be in areas such as business development, partnership development, or policy engagement roles, with a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement and relationship management. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully managing relationships with senior-level stakeholders and executing business strategies.
Languages: A strong command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of Hindi and/or other Indian languages is considered beneficial, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance engagement efforts.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is from February 1 to July 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs. The assignment may be structured on either a full-time or part-time basis, depending on mutual agreement. Compensation will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience, with a base honorarium and potential performance bonuses based on the number of international trademark applications filed. The consultant is responsible for organizing their own travel arrangements for any missions authorized by WIPO, and travel expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum amount for the contract period. The consultant will not have entitlements to vacation or sick leave, except for WIPO official holidays.
