Job Overview: The Area Coordination Assistant position is designed to support the mobilization and placement of UN Volunteers within UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes, focusing on peace, development, and humanitarian assistance. The role involves working closely with the Regional Manager and Country Coordinator to identify and cultivate partnerships with UN entities at the country level. The assistant will manage relationships with priority partners, facilitate data exchange to enhance volunteer mobilization, and ensure partner satisfaction with volunteer services. The position requires regular interaction with UN personnel at various levels and necessitates collaboration across multiple units and teams within UNV to foster horizontal cooperation. The ultimate goal of this role is to ensure the sustained mobilization of volunteers while maintaining a duty of care for them, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UNV.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Mobilization and Partnership Development: Assist in mobilizing UN Volunteers, follow up on partnership opportunities, and share personal experiences to highlight UNV’s mandate. Record mobilization opportunities in the CRM system and document entry points for increasing volunteer assignments. Collect and share information on UN programming frameworks and changes in the operating environment. Develop tailored initiatives that respond to partners’ needs for volunteer services. Prepare presentations and key messages to promote volunteerism. Act as a focal point for online volunteering and assist in identifying volunteer placement opportunities.
Talent Acquisition and Outreach: Support the attraction of qualified local talent in line with demand forecasts and talent acquisition priorities. Identify effective channels for attracting local talent and assist in advocacy and outreach campaigns. Contribute to organizing events that raise awareness and foster engagement with local volunteer organizations.
Volunteer Experience and Duty of Care: Assist with onboarding volunteers, ensuring they receive timely information and resources. Support throughout the volunteer management cycle, responding to inquiries and escalating concerns as needed. Gather volunteer feedback and contribute to appreciation initiatives. Liaise with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security focal points and support volunteers during emergencies. Provide tailored support to volunteers facing challenges and share information on health and wellbeing benefits.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong relationship management skills, the ability to engage with diverse partners, and a results-oriented mindset. They should demonstrate customer satisfaction skills, with a focus on understanding and fulfilling clients' needs. Knowledge of the UN system and the ability to integrate its capacities into strategic work is essential. Candidates should also have the ability to generate knowledge through research and apply existing concepts to new situations, developing innovative solutions as needed.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Candidates should have a solid understanding of volunteerism and its role in development and peace initiatives.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in volunteer management, partnership development, or a related field. Experience working with UN agencies or in international development contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context and understanding of the challenges faced by volunteers in the region will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in the local language(s) is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The initial contract is valid until March 31, 2026, with the possibility of extensions based on the UNV Country Presence Review implementation and updates to the United Conditions of Service. The position is full-time, and candidates should be prepared for a dynamic work environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.
