Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant for Training on Promoting Peace and Environmental Justice through Insider Mediation in Swat is designed to engage a qualified professional who will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs aimed at fostering peace and environmental justice in the region. The consultant will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and UNDP representatives to identify key issues and develop tailored training modules that address the unique challenges faced by the community. The consultant is expected to have a deep understanding of the socio-political landscape of Swat and be able to facilitate discussions that promote dialogue and understanding among diverse groups. The assignment will span a total of 40 working days over a period of 4 months, commencing from the date of signing the contract. The consultant will be required to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, ensuring compliance with the procurement process outlined by UNDP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough needs assessment to identify the training requirements of local stakeholders regarding peace and environmental justice.
  • Develop comprehensive training materials and modules that are culturally relevant and context-specific.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops for various stakeholders, including community leaders, local government officials, and civil society organizations.
  • Promote participatory approaches in training delivery to encourage active engagement and dialogue among participants.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training sessions and make necessary adjustments to improve future training initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports on training outcomes and provide recommendations for further actions to enhance peace and environmental justice in the region.
  • Collaborate with UNDP and other partners to ensure alignment with broader development goals and strategies.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:
  • A strong background in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, environmental justice, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training programs, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to assess complex situations and develop effective strategies.
  • Familiarity with the socio-political context of Swat and the challenges faced by local communities.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have at least a Master's degree in Peace Studies, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Additional certifications in training and facilitation techniques are also desirable.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or environmental justice. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly preferred. Previous work in Pakistan or similar socio-political environments will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Urdu or local dialects spoken in Swat is highly desirable, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This position is a contract-based role for a duration of 40 working days, spread over 4 months. The consultant will work on a part-time basis, with flexibility in scheduling training sessions. The role is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
