Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant for Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Capacity Development is crucial for UNICEF's mission to enhance SBC initiatives across various levels of the organization. The consultant will be responsible for identifying existing SBC capacities among UNICEF staff, partners, and governments, as well as recognizing gaps and learning needs. This role involves conducting institutional capacity assessments, mapping individual and team SBC skills, and developing tailored capacity development strategies. The consultant will work collaboratively with UNICEF teams to ensure the delivery of quality and innovative SBC at scale, ultimately contributing to the organization's goal of improving the lives of children and communities. The consultant will also be expected to provide on-demand technical support to UNICEF Centers of Excellence and potentially to other UN agencies, ensuring that SBC capacity development is integrated consistently across programs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will carry out a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting institutional capacity assessments to analyze demand promotion and SBC strategies among government entities; mapping relevant stakeholders involved in SBC/RCCE strategies; identifying structural and financial bottlenecks; supporting individual and team SBC skills mapping; co-developing tailored capacity development strategies; designing and delivering training materials; facilitating peer-to-peer learning initiatives; and ensuring alignment with existing capacity development resources. The consultant will also be responsible for producing high-quality written outputs, including analytical reports and training materials, and will need to manage multiple workstreams effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's or higher) in social and behavioral sciences, such as sociology, anthropology, communication studies, or psychology. They should have demonstrated experience in individual and institutional SBC capacity development, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative data. Experience in designing and delivering capacity building activities, as well as producing high-quality written outputs, is essential. Familiarity with UN agencies or humanitarian organizations is an asset, along with a strong understanding of SBC programmatic frameworks.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master's or higher) in a relevant field such as social and behavioral sciences is required for this position. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of SBC and for developing effective capacity development strategies.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in SBC capacity development, including hands-on experience in co-developing tailored workshops and delivering training activities. They should also have a proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders and managing multiple workstreams under tight timelines.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of additional UNICEF regional languages is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The Long-Term Agreement for Services (LTAS) will be for a duration of three years, with an initial period of two years and an option for renewal. Selected consultants will be responsible for their own equipment and will not be considered staff members under UN regulations. They must also ensure compliance with local tax laws and visa requirements. The position may require travel to UNICEF offices for on-site support, with travel costs reimbursed according to UNICEF policies. Selected candidates must confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19 before starting the assignment, although this requirement does not apply to remote consultants.
