Job Overview: The position of Website Designer (Online Volunteer) is crucial for the Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform (YECAP), which aims to empower young people to engage in climate governance, justice, green jobs, and inclusive policy processes. The selected volunteer will be responsible for revamping the YECAP website to enhance user experience and improve content management. This role involves conducting a comprehensive review of the existing website, proposing a new sitemap, and implementing design changes that simplify the website's architecture. The volunteer will also focus on enhancing the Resources section, ensuring it is user-friendly and scalable, while also supporting basic SEO improvements to increase visibility and accessibility of content.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a full review and quality check of the existing website structure, pages, and navigation to identify areas for improvement.
Propose and implement an improved sitemap and information architecture to enhance clarity, accessibility, and user flow.
Redesign or restructure the Resources/Publications section to reduce or replace custom backend code where feasible within Wix.
Enable convenient content updates by the internal team and link newly added publications under the Resources section automatically across relevant thematic pages by keyword.
Enhance overall UX/UI, focusing on layout, consistency, readability, and visual hierarchy.
Support basic SEO improvements through better structure, page organization, and visibility of content.
Ensure the final website is simple, scalable, and easy to manage for non-technical users.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in UX/UI design and website development, particularly with Wix.
Strong understanding of sitemap optimization and information architecture.
Ability to conduct comprehensive quality checks and propose effective design solutions.
Familiarity with SEO best practices and techniques for improving website visibility.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the internal team and present design proposals.
Educational Background: A degree in Web Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications in UX/UI design or web development will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have prior experience in website design and development, particularly in creating user-friendly interfaces and optimizing website structures. Experience working with non-profit organizations or youth-led initiatives is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This is an online volunteer position for a duration of 8 weeks. The role is part-time and flexible, allowing the volunteer to work remotely. The position does not offer financial compensation but provides valuable experience in website design and development within an international organization.
