Job Overview:
The Digital Communications Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing UNICEF's digital presence and knowledge management systems. Reporting to the Senior Advisor of the Health Programme Group in New York, the consultant will support the Global Health Team in advancing global health priorities through a strategic approach to social media and communications. This position involves planning, creating, and curating content that aligns with UNICEF's health initiatives, monitoring sector developments, and producing engagement reports. The consultant will also be responsible for developing social media strategies, coordinating content development, and ensuring effective communication of key messages and materials. The role requires a proactive approach to managing digital content and engaging with various stakeholders to promote UNICEF's health programs effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Developing and maintaining social media content plans and editorial calendars to ensure a consistent and engaging online presence.
  • Creating and curating multimedia content and visual assets that align with UNICEF's program priorities, including producing branded visuals and graphics.
  • Monitoring UN and global health developments, preparing summaries and trend analyses related to child, adolescent, and maternal health.
  • Conducting social media performance monitoring and developing quarterly engagement analysis reports to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies.
  • Drafting and scheduling content for various social media platforms, including Twitter and LinkedIn, while supporting account engagement through monitoring and responses.
  • Providing structure and content recommendations for Knowledge Management sites, ensuring accessibility and usability of multimedia resources.
  • Capturing and packaging event documentation, including quotes, photos, and videos, from relevant sessions and providing on-site support for high-level advocacy events.
  • Contributing to the production of internal and external newsletters for Global Health Programmes through content gathering and coordination.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications, including:
  • Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A minimum of one year of experience in producing social media content for international organizations or NGOs.
  • Expertise in analyzing complex data sets and trend forecasting, demonstrating strong analytical skills.
  • A proven track record in communication project management or public health communications, showcasing the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Communications, or related fields. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of health communications and to contribute effectively to UNICEF's health initiatives.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant work experience in communication project management or public health communications. This experience should demonstrate the ability to manage projects effectively, engage with stakeholders, and produce high-quality content that aligns with organizational goals.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also required, as it is another working language, which will enhance communication and collaboration within the organization.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is estimated to last for 11 months and is primarily remote, allowing flexibility in work arrangements. Candidates must complete their profiles in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and submit their academic credentials along with a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable and total lump-sum for the assignment. UNICEF will cover any emergent travel expenses, and selected candidates must have valid health insurance coverage at the time of contract award. Payment for professional fees will be contingent upon the submission of satisfactory deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if standards are not met. Additionally, candidates must ensure their visa and health insurance are valid for the contract duration, and they must confirm their fully-vaccinated status against COVID-19 if required to work on-site.
