Job Overview: The WASH Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the technical aspects of Solidarités International’s WASH portfolio in South Sudan. This role involves direct implementation and support for projects executed by partners, ensuring that all WASH interventions are appropriate, evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable. The WASH Coordinator plays a crucial role in designing and developing WASH programming that aligns with international humanitarian standards, donor regulations, and the specific needs of the affected population. The position requires providing technical guidance to national teams, building their capacity, and ensuring effective coordination with external actors, including government agencies, UN agencies, and WASH Cluster members. The WASH Coordinator will also be involved in reviewing and developing technical Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for water supply and sanitation projects, supporting and training WASH staff, and improving databases for evidence-based planning and proposals. This role demands strong analytical skills to assess WASH needs and gaps, translating findings into strategic interventions that align with SI’s objectives and the national WASH framework.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate the technical aspects of the WASH portfolio in South Sudan, ensuring quality and adherence to humanitarian standards.
Design, develop, and implement WASH programming in response to the needs of affected populations.
Provide technical guidance and support to national teams and partners, ensuring capacity building and effective coordination.
Review and develop technical BoQs for water supply and sanitation projects.
Support and train WASH staff to enhance their technical capacity and identify gaps.
Improve databases and baselines on WASH for evidence-based planning and proposals.
Establish consistent communication and remote monitoring channels for field teams and partners.
Propose new WASH activities to be implemented at the field level, particularly focusing on water supply solutions.
Ensure that all interventions are inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with SI’s objectives and the national WASH framework. 1
Represent SI in coordination forums and facilitate knowledge sharing with partners and field teams.

Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or Construction is required for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in WASH engineering principles and practices, as well as an understanding of public health issues related to water and sanitation.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in WASH engineering and project management, particularly in emergency and post-emergency contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of implementing WASH programs, conducting needs assessments, and developing evidence-based interventions. Experience in capacity building and working with local authorities and partners is also essential, as is familiarity with the complex humanitarian context in South Sudan.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively conveying technical concepts and representing SI in coordination forums. Additional language skills relevant to the local context may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position offers a permanent expatriate contract with a gross salary starting at €2,600 per month. Per diem and accommodation are covered during deployments, and employees receive one day off for each weekend spent in the field, along with 25 days of paid vacation. Health and life insurance, as well as repatriation, are fully covered. The role allows for free choice of location (France or abroad) outside of deployment periods.
