Job Overview:
The Senior Laboratory/Diagnostics Officer plays a crucial role in the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Activity by providing technical guidance and support for laboratory and diagnostic strategies. This position involves collaborating with in-country staff to ensure the effective implementation of technical requirements in workplan design and quality assurance. The officer will monitor and evaluate programmatic effectiveness, oversee technical aspects of the project, and contribute to the development of reports and technical materials. The role requires a deep understanding of infectious disease diagnostics and the ability to provide technical support for field implementation, research studies, and project management. The officer will also be responsible for developing strategies and tools for the design and implementation of laboratory/diagnostic components, ensuring that all activities align with the project's objectives and adhere to quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Laboratory/Diagnostics Officer will be responsible for providing overall technical direction and guidance to STRIDES in-country laboratory and diagnostics staff. Key duties include supporting capacity building and mentorship for laboratory teams, monitoring and maintaining laboratory protocols and data sets, and conducting analyses to identify areas for improvement. The officer will assist in implementing research studies, develop strategies for laboratory/diagnostic activities, and ensure that project timelines and budgets are adhered to. Additionally, the officer will prepare reports summarizing STRIDES results, develop quality assurance processes, and stay updated on innovations in diagnostics. The role also involves representing the project in donor meetings and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of infectious disease diagnostics and experience in providing technical support for field implementation and project management. A broader understanding of laboratory/diagnostic quality standards is essential, along with proficiency in database management software and online search tools. Strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as excellent project management abilities, are required. The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse teams is crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Knowledge/Information Services, Health, Human Development, Microbiology, Clinical Diagnostics, or a related field is required. Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred, indicating a strong foundation in managing complex projects and ensuring successful outcomes.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have at least 6 years of relevant experience managing data collection and providing technical assistance. Proven knowledge and experience in diagnosing infectious diseases and strengthening laboratories to meet international quality standards are essential. Previous work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate complex environments and deliver impactful results.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak clearly. Knowledge of Juba Arabic or other local languages is highly desirable, especially for roles that involve direct engagement with local communities, as it enhances communication and fosters trust.

Additional Notes:
The position may require travel of 10%-25% and is open to South Sudanese nationals. The expected hiring range for this role is between USD 30,000 - 40,000 annually for basic salary, with considerations for relevant experience and education.
