Job Overview: The Health Manager will work full-time at the UN Clinic, providing medical services to UN staff members and their dependents. Reporting to the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Operations, and receiving administrative support from the UN Resident Coordinator, the Health Manager will oversee daily clinic operations, manage clinical staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality medical services to the UN Country Team (UNCT). Responsibilities include facilitating medical evacuations, participating in medical examinations, promoting occupational health policies, and engaging in HIV initiatives as outlined in UN Cares and UN Plus. The role also involves collaboration with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and external medical emergency response teams, with the potential for travel to other locations in Zimbabwe as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health Manager's duties include responding to acute emergencies according to international protocols, performing triage and primary stabilization, conducting medical examinations, providing health education, and addressing occupational health issues. Administrative responsibilities involve liaising with host-nation medical facilities, managing medical clearances, and ensuring proper documentation for medical evacuations. The Health Manager will also supervise the clinic's operations, ensuring the availability of medical supplies and equipment, implementing training programs, and managing the HIV PEP program. Additionally, the role requires overseeing workplace health communication, advising senior management on healthcare matters, and representing the medical service in various forums.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Medicine from an accredited institution and be licensed to practice in their home country or another jurisdiction. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) qualifying for medical registration, combined with two years of qualifying experience, will be considered. Valid certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support is required, with certification in HIV care or VCCT being desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate strong managerial skills and experience in the medical field, including budgeting and resource management.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in Medicine is required, or a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) that qualifies for medical registration, along with additional qualifying experience. Valid certifications in trauma and emergency care are mandatory, while certifications related to HIV care are preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in general medicine, particularly in developing countries or conflict zones, is required. This includes at least two years in trauma and emergency care and two years in internal medicine. Experience in surgical, ICU, aeromedical, or anesthetic fields is advantageous. Candidates should also have two years of managerial experience in the medical field, including budgeting and supervisory responsibilities, and experience in occupational health is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of French is also beneficial. Familiarity with the local language is highly desirable, enhancing communication with patients and staff.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and primarily based in Harare, with potential travel to other locations in Zimbabwe as needed.
