Job Overview: The position of Banking and Finance Lawyer within the EIB's Legal Directorate is a pivotal role that involves providing legal advice and support on a variety of complex financial transactions. The lawyer will work closely with a team of 15 professionals, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes knowledge sharing and mutual support. Duties and Responsibilities: The Banking and Finance Lawyer will be responsible for managing contacts and negotiations related to EIB operations, drafting legal documents, providing advisory support, and finalizing contracts. Key responsibilities include:
Advising on standard loan agreements and conducting research on new financial products.
Drafting and negotiating loan and finance documentation in both English and Spanish.
Understanding and implementing specific mandates in contractual documentation.
Contributing to the development of grant documentation and blending activities.
Collaborating with team members and providing coaching to junior colleagues.
Liaising with external consultants and supervising their work.
Conducting legal research on significant legal matters.
Maintaining relationships within the Bank and representing the EIB externally.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in law, ideally at the Master level, preferably obtained in a civil law country. A legal qualification in a civil law jurisdiction is advantageous. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in lending and finance is required, preferably gained in a reputable law firm or the in-house legal department of a financial institution. Significant experience in drafting and negotiating loan and finance documentation in both English and Spanish is essential, along with excellent written and spoken proficiency in these languages. A good command of French is considered an advantage, although not mandatory for hire.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a university degree in law, with a preference for those who have obtained their degree in a civil law country. A Master's degree in law is preferred, and candidates with a law degree from Spain will have an added advantage. Legal qualifications in civil law jurisdictions are also beneficial for this role.
