Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in the Flood Reconstruction and Coordination Programme, which was initiated in response to the devastating floods in Pakistan between June and August 202
This position involves working closely with the Planning and Development Department of the Government of Sindh to design, develop, and maintain software applications that support flood recovery efforts. The volunteer will be responsible for creating full-stack solutions, managing databases, ensuring cybersecurity, and enhancing monitoring and reporting tools. The role requires a blend of technical skills and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of digital tools that facilitate effective governance and recovery processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Software Development and System Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain software applications for the Provincial RRU in Sindh, including backend systems, frontend interfaces, databases, APIs, and automated reporting tools.
Database Management and Data Engineering: Develop and manage SQL and NoSQL databases, establish data validation tools, and organize provincial datasets for planning and reporting.
Hosting, Deployment, and Cybersecurity: Deploy systems in cloud or on-premises environments, configure servers and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols, and implement cybersecurity measures.
Support to Monitoring and Reporting Functions: Maintain monitoring tools, build project tracking modules, and support integration with federal systems.
Troubleshooting, Quality Assurance, and Documentation: Conduct testing and debugging, prepare technical documentation, and ensure compliance with IT policies.
Capacity Building and Coordination: Provide technical support and training to government officials and coordinate with various stakeholders for smooth implementation of digital tools.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in software development, system architecture, and database management. Proficiency in programming languages and frameworks relevant to full-stack development is essential. Familiarity with cloud services, cybersecurity protocols, and data engineering practices is also required. The ability to work collaboratively with government officials and other stakeholders is crucial, along with strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing environments.
Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas may be advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to professional development in the field of software development and system architecture.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in software development, system architecture, and database management. Experience working in a governmental or international development context is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of such environments. Proven experience in managing projects and collaborating with diverse teams will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNDP. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages is considered an asset, as it facilitates communication with local stakeholders and enhances the effectiveness of the volunteer's work.
Additional Notes: This is a national UNV assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 183,920 will be provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. The assignment includes life health and permanent disability insurance, health insurance for up to three dependents, and a resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to the objectives of the UNDP and the specific goals of the Flood Reconstruction and Coordination Programme.
