Job Overview: This position involves recruiting two individual consultants to provide support for the Mineral Value Chains Development project. The consultants will be expected to contribute to the enhancement of the mineral value chains in Cameroon, focusing on sustainable practices and economic development. The role requires a deep understanding of the mineral sector, including the challenges and opportunities within the value chains. The consultants will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, and local communities, to ensure that the mineral resources are managed effectively and contribute to the national development goals. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to engage with diverse groups to foster collaboration and innovation in the mineral sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultants will be responsible for conducting assessments of the current mineral value chains, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. They will develop strategic recommendations for enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of these value chains. Additionally, the consultants will facilitate workshops and training sessions for stakeholders to build capacity and share best practices. They will also be tasked with preparing detailed reports on their findings and recommendations, ensuring that all documentation is clear and accessible to a wide audience. Regular communication with the UNDP project team and stakeholders will be essential to align efforts and track progress. The consultants will also need to monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented strategies and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in mineral economics, sustainable development, or a related field. They should have proven experience in working with value chains, particularly in the mineral sector. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations are essential. The ideal candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders. Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Cameroon and the challenges facing the mineral sector will be a significant advantage. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices and ethical considerations in resource management.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in mineral economics, sustainable development, environmental science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. in a relevant field will be given preference. Relevant certifications or training in project management, stakeholder engagement, or sustainable resource management will also be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the mineral sector, with a focus on value chainanalysis and development. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in similar roles will be highly regarded. Proven track record of successful project implementation and stakeholder engagement is essential. Familiarity with the UNDP's operational procedures and procurement processes will be an added advantage.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Cameroon. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages may be beneficial for engaging with communities and local partners.
Additional Notes: This position is for individual contractors and is expected to be a full-time engagement for the duration of the project. The contract duration will be specified in the terms of reference provided to the selected candidates. The consultants will be required to submit their proposals through the UNDP supplier portal, and all communications regarding the tender must be conducted through the portal's messaging system. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, and benefits may include travel allowances and other project-related expenses.
