Job Overview:
The Biomass Heating Expert position is a consultancy role aimed at providing high-level technical expertise for the biomass district heating component of a specific project. The expert will be responsible for preparing deliverables that include expert reviews and written recommendations on design documentation and technical materials related to biomass boiler plants and cogeneration units. The role also involves ensuring compliance with Ukrainian regulations and international standards concerning biomass heating systems, which encompasses fuel logistics, environmental compliance, and energy efficiency. The expert will draft and review technical sections of tender documentation and evaluation materials for works and equipment related to biomass installations. Additionally, the expert will prepare logistics-related technical notes for equipment delivery, inspection, and acceptance at the project site, as well as analytical and summary reports on the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of the biomass solution, including lessons learned and recommendations for potential replication.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Biomass Heating Expert include:
  • Providing expert review and written recommendations on design documentation and related technical materials for biomass boiler plants and cogeneration units.
  • Preparing written comments and recommendations on the application of Ukrainian regulations and international standards related to biomass heating systems.
  • Drafting and/or reviewing technical sections of tender documentation and evaluation materials for works and equipment related to biomass installations.
  • Preparing a logistics-related technical note for equipment delivery, inspection, and acceptance at the project site.
  • Preparing written analytical and summary reports on the technical, economic, and environmental aspects of the biomass solution, including lessons learned and recommendations for potential replication.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives and compliance with relevant standards.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong background in biomass heating systems, including technical expertise in design and implementation. Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of Ukrainian regulations and international standards related to biomass heating. Additionally, the expert should have experience in drafting technical documentation and conducting evaluations for biomass installations. Strong analytical skills and the ability to prepare comprehensive reports are essential. The role also demands excellent communication skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Biomass Heating Expert position should have a degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in biomass energy systems or renewable energy technologies will be considered an asset. Continuous professional development in relevant areas is highly desirable.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of biomass heating systems or related areas. Experience working with international organizations or in consultancy roles related to energy projects is preferred. Familiarity with project management and stakeholder engagement in the context of renewable energy projects will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Russian, will be considered a plus, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a local consultant role with an assignment period of 18 months, encompassing 345 working days over a 1.5-year period. The contract will be established in UAH, and the consultant will work remotely from home.
