Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position involves providing technical support for inter-agency coordination related to gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE) in Nepal. The role requires collaboration with the Country Representative and Deputy Representative to support strategic coordination efforts, including organizing workshops and meetings for inter-agency mechanisms. The volunteer will prepare briefing materials for UN inter-agency processes and support monitoring and reporting on gender equality results. The position also entails strengthening partnerships and resource mobilization by engaging with donors, preparing proposals, and identifying funding opportunities. The volunteer will play a crucial role in ensuring that gender equality is central to UN programs and policies in Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support on inter-agency coordination by working closely with the Country Representative and Deputy Representative to support strategic coordination related to Nepal’s GEWE priorities. This includes coordinating workshops and meetings for inter-agency mechanisms co-chaired by UN Women, preparing briefing materials for UN inter-agency processes, and supporting monitoring and reporting on gender equality results.
  • Support strengthening partnerships and resource mobilization by providing inputs to forge and implement strategic partnerships, engaging with bilateral and multilateral donors, and assisting in the development of proposals and concept notes.
  • Collect substantive inputs from the program team and conduct political, social, and economic analysis to inform UN Women’s and UNCT’s efforts from a gender perspective.
  • Manage consultants supporting partnership and resource mobilization efforts and provide regular updates on donor profiles and partnership opportunities.
  • Support organization and documentation of coordination meetings and consultations, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills in gender equality and women's empowerment, with a solid understanding of inter-agency coordination processes. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work setting, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Knowledge of the UN system and experience in resource mobilization are highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, gender studies, international relations, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in gender issues, human rights, and development policies.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of successful collaboration with diverse stakeholders and a strong understanding of gender issues in the context of Nepal.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication and engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position under the UN system, and the duration of the contract may vary. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to the mission and values of UN Women. The living conditions in Kathmandu are generally good, with access to comfortable housing and local amenities. However, candidates should be prepared for cultural differences and the need for adaptability in a developing country context.
