Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's education programme in India, particularly in planning, monitoring, and evaluating educational initiatives aimed at improving access to quality learning for vulnerable children and adolescents. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Chief of Education or Education Specialist, contributing to the implementation of the National Education Policy and the Samagra Shiksha programme. This position requires collaboration with government partners and stakeholders to ensure effective programme delivery and to promote innovative educational practices. The volunteer will also engage in knowledge management and capacity building efforts, documenting best practices and lessons learned to enhance the impact of educational reforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support education programme planning and monitoring by assisting in the preparation of materials and documentation, ensuring compliance with results-based management processes.
  • Design and manage systems for programme reviews and assessments, maintaining records for easy reference.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to address operational issues and support scalable proposal development.
  • Develop monitoring and evaluation matrices to report on necessary actions and interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of knowledge management strategies for the education section.
  • Support strategic advocacy initiatives by identifying and sharing lessons learned.
  • Document innovative approaches and good practices for sustainable programme results.
  • Conduct research on best practices for knowledge product development.
  • Engage in community volunteerism and promote the UN Volunteers programme. 1
  • Contribute to UNV publications and assist with the Buddy Programme for new volunteers.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, teamwork, commitment to continuous learning, effective planning and organizing skills, strong communication abilities, and flexibility. They should possess a good understanding of UNICEF operations and be able to liaise with various stakeholders. The ability to work independently and manage information confidentially is essential. Candidates should also show a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and UNICEF's mission.

Educational Background:
A degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of educational policies and practices, particularly in the context of developing countries. Knowledge of child rights and equity issues in education is highly desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in education programme planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations in the education sector is preferred. Familiarity with knowledge management and capacity building initiatives will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is used for official and business communication. Proficiency in Hindi is also important, as it is the official language spoken by the majority of the population. Knowledge of additional languages such as Punjabi or Urdu would be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The volunteer is responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance of INR 64,961.50, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment and relocation costs if applicable.
