Job Overview: The UN Clinic Nurse position is part of the UNDP Common Premises project, where the nurse will work under the direct supervision of the Medical Physician In-Charge of the UN dispensary. The role involves providing comprehensive medical care to UN staff, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the health and safety of personnel. The nurse will be responsible for performing diagnostic tests, clinical assessments, and health education programs, as well as coordinating medical evacuations and maintaining medical records. The position requires a proactive approach to health promotion and preventive medicine, ensuring that staff are prepared for missions and reassignments. The nurse will also play a key role in maintaining the clinic's operations and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Clinic Nurse will have a wide range of responsibilities, including: attending the UN Clinic full-time, assisting the Medical Physician in providing care, responding to emergency calls, giving first-aid and advice, ensuring effective communication between patients and medical personnel, documenting case findings, performing diagnostic tests such as ECGs and laboratory tests, conducting clinical assessments, facilitating referrals to medical doctors, administering vaccines and travel-related health advice, providing health education, participating in work environment assessments, coordinating medical evacuations, advising evacuees, maintaining medical records, performing outpatient treatments, and ensuring the clinic is well-stocked and organized. The nurse will also supervise other clinic personnel, maintain hygiene standards, and liaise with procurement for medical supplies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid nursing license and have a strong understanding of medical practices and procedures. They should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical medical practices, as well as the ability to manage stress and work under pressure. Proficiency in using medical equipment and technology is essential, along with the ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
Educational Background: A degree in nursing or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should have completed a recognized nursing program and hold a valid nursing license. Additional certifications in emergency care, first aid, or public health are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a clinical or emergency care setting. Experience working in international organizations or in challenging environments is highly desirable. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, given the location of the position. Additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the local context.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a Category E hardship duty station and is a non-family duty station. The Rest and Recuperation (R&R) cycle for Baghdad is 6 weeks, with designated R&R locations. International staff movement is restricted and conducted in UN vehicles. The role requires cultural awareness and the ability to adapt to potentially hazardous living conditions. The UN Clinic Nurse will be responsible for arranging their own housing. International UN Volunteers receive a monthly living allowance of USD 2498.48, a well-being differential of USD 1000, medical and life insurance, and access to learning platforms.
