Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Field Security Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel in Syria. This position operates under the guidance of the Chief Security Adviser (CSA) or Deputy Chiefadvisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor (DCSA) and is responsible for implementing security information management and procedures. The associate will support the Senior Information Officer in maintaining security information products, monitor security developments, and assist in preparing security analyses and assessments. The role requires effective communication with UN agency heads and maintaining regular contact with security focal points. The Field Security Associate will also assist in preparing and delivering security briefings, ensuring that all personnel are informed about the local security environment and potential risks. This position is vital for the operational support of UN programs in the region, contributing to the overall mission of UNDP in promoting peace and security.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the CSA in collecting, updating, and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country. This includes supporting the Senior Information Officer in maintaining accurate security information products, monitoring UN internal sources, local and international media, and other open sources to keep security awareness high. The associate will assist in collecting and verifying Security Threat Information (STI) to support the development of Security Advisories, Alerts, and Notices.
Assists in maintaining key security documentation at the duty station, ensuring that all records are up-to-date and accessible.
Supports the CSIOC in preparing and delivering security briefings to the Security Cell (SC), Senior Management Team (SMT), and visiting missions. This includes updating briefing materials and maintaining accurate records.
Delivers Security Orientation Briefings for new arrivals and visitors, providing a comprehensive understanding of the local security environment.
Performs administrative duties as a backup to the CSA Assistant, including drafting agendas, recording attendance, and maintaining confidential correspondence files.
The incumbent may also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of secondary education, with a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree) in Political Science, Military Studies, Social Studies, Management, Business, or Public Administration being an asset. Formal training in security risk management is also considered beneficial. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and a proactive approach to security management.
Educational Background: Candidates must have at least secondary education, with a first-level university degree in a relevant field being advantageous. Formal training in security risk management is an asset, and certifications such as FSA/LSA are preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in security, preferably in a military or police context, or related fields. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's degree should have at least 3 years of relevant experience. Prior experience with the UN system or international NGOs is desirable, along with knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation and experience in diplomatic security.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse UN environment.
Additional Notes: This position is classified under Tier 1, which includes UNDP/UNCDF/UNV staff holding permanent and fixed-term appointments.
