Job Overview:
The Project Support Officer position is situated within the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme, specifically in the Indian Ocean West Programme. This role is crucial for supporting the criminal justice systems of states in the Indian Ocean region, focusing on enhancing the capacity of law enforcement agencies to combat maritime crime, including piracy. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator for the Indian Ocean West Programme, contributing to the planning and coordination of Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) programmes. The primary objective of this position is to ensure that MLE Units are effectively engaged in security operations and the investigation of maritime crimes. The Project Support Officer will assist in implementing activities that align with the goals of the Global Maritime Crime Programme, ensuring that the initiatives are coherent and coordinated across the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Support Officer include assisting the IOW Programme Coordinator in developing, implementing, and evaluating programme activities under the Global Maritime Crime Programme. The officer will identify technical assistance needs for capacity building and develop sustainable strategies to enhance the capabilities of maritime law enforcement and criminal justice authorities in Mozambique and the surrounding region. Additionally, the officer will support the planning and delivery of activities in Mozambique and the wider Indian Ocean region, ensuring alignment with ongoing GMCP initiatives. Responsibilities also include preparing and disseminating project documentation related to maritime crime, contributing to policy coordination and evaluation functions, and preparing various written outputs such as background papers and analytical notes. The officer will provide administrative support for meetings, workshops, and conferences, assist with donor reporting, and support field missions to locations where GMCP activities are conducted. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned by the Programme Coordinator.
