Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UN Women was established in July 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The organization was created as part of the UN reform agenda, which aimed to consolidate resources and mandates to enhance the impact of gender equality initiatives. UN Women merges and builds upon the work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system that focused on gender equality and women's empowerment, namely DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW, and UNIFEM. The organization operates globally, with a specific focus on eliminating discrimination against women and girls, empowering women, and achieving equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The Nordic Office of UN Women is located in the UN City within Copenhagen and is responsible for strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, advocacy, and communication in the Nordic and Baltic regions, collaborating with various stakeholders including governments, civil society, and the private sector.

Job Overview:
As a Public Partnerships intern at the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, you will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of UN communication strategies and methods, as well as insights into global challenges and current gender equality efforts by the international community. The internship is designed to provide excellent learning opportunities through active participation in UN Women’s engagement with diverse stakeholders throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions. Interns will be integrated into a dynamic office environment and will also be part of the wider UN City community, allowing for a rich experience in understanding the workings of the UN system and UN Women’s role in advancing gender equality worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, the main duties of the intern will include: conducting national political research on issues related to UN Women’s work and mandate, and reporting on relevant developments in government policies within the Nordic and Baltic regions; monitoring national media in Nordic countries for coverage related to UN Women’s work and reporting on significant media coverage; assisting in the preparation of high-level annual consultations, events, and meetings with Nordic public partners throughout the internship; conducting research to support strategic decision-making and identifying engagement opportunities based on national political developments related to gender equality; supporting the translation and distribution of corporate updates, statements, and press releases through national media outlets, and drafting executive summaries on relevant documents and reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess university studies in one of the following disciplines: political science, development studies, gender studies, international relations, or other relevant subjects. Additionally, candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent); be enrolled in a mandatory national service programme of which the internship may form a part; or have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must start the internship within two years of graduation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes university studies in disciplines such as political science, development studies, gender studies, international relations, or other relevant fields. Candidates must be either enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme, in their final year of a bachelor’s degree, participating in a mandatory national service programme, or have graduated within the last two years with a relevant degree.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of the work of UN Women and the UN system. While specific prior experience may not be mandatory, candidates should demonstrate an interest in gender equality issues and the workings of international organizations. Experience in research, media monitoring, or event coordination would be beneficial.

Languages:
Proficient communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required for this position. Additionally, proficiency in a Nordic language is highly desired, and working knowledge of another UN language would be considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
The internship is designed for individuals who are not receiving financial support from other sources, such as universities or other institutions, as UN Women will provide a stipend to partially subsidize basic living costs during the internship. All applicants must submit a completed and signed P.11 form along with a cover letter in English. Due to the high volume of applications, UN Women will only contact successful candidates. Selected candidates will be required to provide proof of enrollment in a valid health insurance plan at the duty station, proof of school enrollment or degree, a scanned copy of their passport or national ID, and a copy of a valid visa if applicable.
