Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UN Women, established in July 2010, is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The organization was created as part of the UN reform agenda to consolidate resources and mandates for greater impact on gender equality and women's empowerment. UN Women merges the work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system that focused on gender issues, namely DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW, and UNIFEM. The organization operates globally, with a specific focus on eliminating discrimination against women and girls, empowering women, and achieving equality between women and men. The Nordic Office is located in the UN City in Copenhagen and is responsible for strategic partnerships, resource mobilization, advocacy, and communication in the Nordic and Baltic regions, engaging with various stakeholders including governments, civil society, and the private sector.

Job Overview:
As a Public Partnerships intern at the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of UN communication strategies and methods, as well as insights into global challenges and current gender equality efforts. The internship is designed to provide excellent learning opportunities through active participation in UN Women’s engagement with diverse stakeholders throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions. Interns will be integrated into a dynamic office environment and will also be part of the wider UN City community, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and experiences related to gender equality initiatives worldwide. The role emphasizes the importance of collaboration and engagement with various partners to advance gender equality on a global scale.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of the UN Women Nordic Liaison Office, the intern will be responsible for conducting national political research on issues pertinent to UN Women's mandate, monitoring national media coverage in Nordic countries, and reporting on relevant developments in government policies. The intern will assist in preparing high-level consultations, events, and meetings with Nordic public partners. Additionally, the intern will conduct research to support strategic decision-making, identify engagement opportunities based on national political developments related to gender equality, and assist with the translation and distribution of corporate updates, statements, and press releases. Drafting executive summaries on relevant documents and reports will also be part of the responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have university studies in disciplines such as political science, development studies, gender studies, international relations, or other relevant subjects. Applicants should meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final academic year of a first university degree program, be enrolled in a mandatory national service program, or have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in a postgraduate degree program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program in relevant fields such as political science, development studies, gender studies, or international relations. Recent graduates who meet the educational criteria are also eligible to apply, provided they start the internship within two years of graduation.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a foundational understanding of the UN system and gender equality issues. While specific prior work experience is not mandated, any relevant internships or volunteer work in related fields will be considered an asset. The intern should demonstrate an eagerness to learn and engage with the work of UN Women and its partners.

Languages:
Proficient communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required. Proficiency in a Nordic language is highly desired, and working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage. This linguistic capability will facilitate effective communication with diverse stakeholders and enhance the intern's ability to contribute to the organization's goals.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to help cover basic living costs during the internship. Applicants must submit a completed P.11 form and a cover letter in English. Due to the high volume of applications, only successful candidates will be contacted. Selected candidates will need to provide proof of enrollment in a valid health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment or degree, a scanned copy of their passport/national ID, and a copy of a valid visa if applicable. The organization emphasizes diversity and inclusion, ensuring that recruitment and employment decisions are made based on qualifications and organizational needs.
