Job Overview:
The position of National Individual Consultant - engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer under LTA is designed to provide specialized civil engineering expertise to support UNDP's projects in Nepal. The consultant will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering services as outlined in the Terms of Reference (ToR). The role requires a deep understanding of civil engineering principles, project management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The consultant will be engaged on an as-needed basis during the validity of the long-term agreement, which spans from December 2025 to September 2027, with an estimated total of 175 days of service. The consultant's performance will be evaluated, and based on satisfactory results, there is a possibility for extension of the contract beyond the initial year.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to: conducting site assessments and feasibility studies; preparing detailed engineering designs and specifications; ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards; providing technical guidance and support to project teams; collaborating with government agencies and other stakeholders; monitoring project progress and quality; preparing reports and documentation related to engineering activities; and participating in project meetings and consultations. The consultant will also be expected to contribute to capacity building initiatives and knowledge sharing within the organization and with local partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in civil engineering, with a proven track record of successful project delivery. Essential qualifications include a degree in civil engineering or a related field, along with relevant certifications. The consultant should demonstrate proficiency in engineering software and tools, as well as a solid understanding of construction management principles. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial, along with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required. Advanced degrees such as a Master's in Civil Engineering or Project Management will be considered an asset. Additional certifications in project management or specialized engineering fields will also enhance the candidate's profile.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in civil engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects. Experience in working with UN agencies or similar international organizations is preferred. The consultant should have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within tight deadlines. Previous experience in Nepal or similar contexts will be an advantage, as it will provide valuable insights into local conditions and regulations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Nepali or other local languages is considered a strong asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance project effectiveness.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role under the procurement process of UNDP. The contract duration is initially set for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance. The consultant will be engaged on a part-time basis, with an estimated total of 175 days of service during the contract period. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's policies. The consultant may be required to travel within Nepal as part of their duties.
