Job Overview: The Banking and Finance Lawyer position is situated within the EIB's Legal Directorate, specifically in the EU Operations Department's Northern Europe Division. This role is pivotal in providing legal support for projects in Northern Europe, particularly in Austria and Germany. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Division and other legal advisers, engaging in various legal tasks related to lending and financing operations. Duties and Responsibilities: As a Banking and Finance Lawyer, you will be responsible for drafting and negotiating legal documentation for various lending and financing operations. This includes bilateral loans with banking counterparts, public entities, and major corporations, as well as project finance operations and structured finance operations, including securitisations. You will also advise on structuring, draft legal documents, provide legal advisory support, and ensure the completion of all related legal formalities. Managing contacts and negotiations, preparing terms of reference for external counsel, and conducting legal research are also key responsibilities. You will be expected to develop and maintain relationships within the EIB, its clients, and external legal advisers, representing the EIB in various capacities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in law, ideally at the Master level, and preferably be qualified in German or Austrian law. A minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 15 years of relevant professional experience in bank lending, project finance, or capital markets is required. Experience should ideally be gained in a law firm of international repute or an in-house legal department of a financial institution. Knowledge of civil and commercial law relevant to the Division's work is advantageous. Significant experience in drafting and negotiating finance documents in English is essential, while proficiency in German is a distinct advantage. Familiarity with structured finance and project finance/PPP transactions is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in law, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree. The ideal candidate should be qualified in German or Austrian law, which aligns with the legal frameworks relevant to the EIB's operations in Northern Europe.
