The officer will work under the supervision of the WASH Coordinator and will be responsible for providing technical support in developing and implementing WASH programming, including infrastructure and construction activities. The officer will assist in the overall planning and design of future projects, ensuring that they meet the needs of the communities served. Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: ensuring adherence to organizational policies and guidelines; implementing delegated support functions according to the action plan; preparing and developing status reports as required; maintaining proper filing of documents; promoting ideas for improvement; conducting needs assessments and baseline studies; collating data from WASH technical assistants; advising on capacity building needs; facilitating community involvement in WASH infrastructure design and delivery; supervising construction activities; preparing plans, designs, and specifications for WASH infrastructure; managing project timelines and budgets; conducting site assessments; coordinating with community leaders; providing technical assistance during implementation; preparing progress reports; liaising with other sectors and agencies; and representing the organization in WASH meetings.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in monitoring and supervising WASH construction projects. A university degree in Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, or a directly related field is essential. Candidates should possess strong knowledge and experience in engineering and construction processes, including tendering and monitoring of construction sites. Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts is preferred, along with report writing skills and proficiency in computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets. Familiarity with technical drawing software, particularly AutoCAD, and project management software is desirable. Strong organizational, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a university degree in a relevant field such as Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Technology and Management. This educational background is critical for understanding the technical aspects of WASH infrastructure and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and supervising WASH construction projects.
