Job Overview:
The SDG Consultant position is designed to support the UNDP's efforts in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Montenegro. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on the implementation of SDG-related projects and initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of the SDGs and their relevance to national and local development strategies. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to ensure that SDG objectives are integrated into policy frameworks and development plans. The consultant will also be expected to conduct research, analyze data, and prepare reports that assess progress towards achieving the SDGs in Montenegro. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among local partners and promote awareness of the SDGs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SDG Consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting assessments of current policies and programs to identify gaps in SDG implementation.
  • Collaborating with government officials and stakeholders to develop strategies for integrating SDGs into national and local development plans.
  • Providing technical assistance and guidance on best practices for SDG implementation.
  • Developing and delivering training programs and workshops to enhance the capacity of local partners in SDG-related areas.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of SDG initiatives and preparing reports on findings.
  • Engaging with civil society and the private sector to foster partnerships that support SDG objectives.
  • Conducting research and analysis on emerging trends and challenges related to sustainable development in Montenegro.
  • Representing UNDP in meetings and forums related to the SDGs, advocating for the importance of sustainable development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications to be considered for the SDG Consultant position. This includes a proven track record in sustainable development, policy analysis, and project management. Candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A strong understanding of the SDGs and their implications for national and local development is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly. Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software is also required, along with experience in conducting research and preparing reports.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the SDG Consultant position includes a minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as international development, public policy, environmental science, or a related discipline. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent advanced degree will be given preference. Additionally, specialized training or certifications related to sustainable development, project management, or policy analysis will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in the field of sustainable development, with a focus on the implementation of the SDGs. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or non-governmental organizations is highly desirable. Proven experience in project management, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement is essential. Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Montenegro and the challenges related to sustainable development in the region will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for the SDG Consultant position, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Montenegrin or Serbian is considered a strong asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the consultant's effectiveness in the role. Additional language skills may also be beneficial, particularly in the context of engaging with diverse communities and partners.

The SDG Consultant position is an individual contractor role, with a contract duration from January 15, 2026, to December 15, 202
  • This is a full-time position, and the consultant will be expected to work closely with the UNDP office in Montenegro. The consultant will be compensated based on their qualifications and experience, in accordance with UNDP's policies and guidelines. The position may involve travel within Montenegro to engage with various stakeholders and conduct field assessments.
