Job Overview:
The Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) specialist position is designed to provide expert guidance and support in the implementation of sustainable forest management practices. The specialist will be responsible for developing strategies that promote the sustainable use of forest resources while ensuring the conservation of biodiversity. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and international organizations, to foster sustainable practices that align with national and global environmental goals. The SFM specialist will also be expected to conduct assessments, provide technical assistance, and contribute to policy development related to forest management. The position requires a deep understanding of ecological principles, forest economics, and the socio-economic factors that influence forest management decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) specialist include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of forest resources and their management practices.
  • Developing and implementing sustainable forest management plans that align with national policies and international standards.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to promote community-based forest management initiatives.
  • Providing technical assistance and capacity building to local communities and government agencies.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of forest management practices and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Engaging in policy advocacy to promote sustainable forest management at local, national, and international levels.
  • Preparing reports and documentation related to forest management activities and outcomes.
  • Participating in workshops, conferences, and other events to share knowledge and best practices in sustainable forest management.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) specialist position include:
  • A strong background in forestry, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in sustainable forest management practices and policies.
