Job Overview: The Research Associate position is integral to the IP Transformative Economic Policy Programme (TEPP) – II project, which is funded by the UK government. This role involves supporting the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) in Bangladesh as the country transitions from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. The Research Associate will conduct desk and field research on economic development issues, particularly those related to investment, and will assist in producing policy briefs and reports that inform policymakers about the investment climate in Bangladesh. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector entities, and international organizations, to enhance trade policy and negotiation skills, and to improve the overall investment environment in the country. The Research Associate will work under the supervision of the Policy Analyst and will be responsible for ensuring the quality of commissioned studies and developing partnerships for effective policy engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Research Associate will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: conducting desk and field research on economic development issues, assisting in data analytics related to investment, producing policy briefs and reports, supporting the hiring of consultants for commissioned studies, developing partnerships with key stakeholders, planning and organizing dialogues and workshops, and preparing progress reports for the research unit. The role also involves monitoring the activities of consultants, ensuring the quality of commissioned studies, and preserving documentation related to research activities. The Research Associate will perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of secondary education, with a university degree in Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, International Development, Public Policy, Social Science, or a related field being preferred. A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience is required for those with secondary education, or 3 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Candidates should have experience in analytical research, writing technical reports, and engaging with various stakeholders in development policy. Strong problem-solving abilities, skills in data analysis, and the ability to conduct literature reviews are also essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes at least secondary education, with a preference for candidates holding a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Economics, Development Studies, or Public Policy.
