Job Overview:
The position of Visualization Volunteer is designed to assist the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security team at WFP Ethiopia by creating visual documents that simplify the presentation of data related to security incidents within UN operations. The role involves transforming raw data into accessible visual materials, such as charts and infographics, which will facilitate effective communication of trends and patterns. This volunteer opportunity provides a unique experience in humanitarian operations, allowing the volunteer to contribute to the enhancement of security information flow within the organization. The volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Security Officer, gaining insights into the operational aspects of humanitarian work while supporting the team in their mission to ensure the safety of staff, assets, and beneficiaries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Visualization Volunteer include:
  • Assisting the security team by preparing visualization materials, including charts, infographics, and other visual aids that effectively communicate security-related data.
  • Supporting the maintenance and updating of existing visual materials as new information becomes available, ensuring that all visual aids are current and relevant.
  • Collaborating with team members to understand the specific data needs and the best ways to represent this information visually.
  • Engaging in discussions with the security team to identify key trends and patterns that should be highlighted in the visual materials.
  • Participating in team meetings to provide updates on progress and gather feedback on the visual materials created.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Visualization Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong skills in data visualization and graphic design, with proficiency in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar software.
  • Basic understanding of data analysis and the ability to interpret security-related data effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take direction from supervisors while also being proactive in suggesting improvements to visual materials.
  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of the World Food Programme and a passion for humanitarian work.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally have a background in graphic design, data visualization, communications, or a related field. A degree or coursework in these areas is preferred, but not mandatory if the candidate can demonstrate relevant skills and experience.

Experience:
While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not strictly required. The volunteer should have some familiarity with data visualization techniques and tools, as well as a willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the security team. Experience in humanitarian contexts or with NGOs is a plus but not essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the World Food Programme. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where WFP operates, would be considered an asset but is not required.
