Job Overview:
The engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of urban development projects in Brazil, specifically in the Izidora area of Belo Horizonte. This position involves collaborating closely with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure the successful execution of the project aimed at improving municipal infrastructure and social housing options. The engineer will be responsible for analyzing transport systems, providing technical support for environmental licensing, and engaging with the local community to discuss urban planning initiatives. This role requires a proactive approach to project management and a commitment to sustainable urban development principles.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: 1) Participating in and supporting the Urban Planning Technical Team for Izidora; 2) Analyzing the transport system and developing guidelines for geometric, containment, and earthmoving projects; 3) Providing technical support for environmental licensing processes; 4) Engaging with the Izidora community to discuss urban plans and projects; 5) Evaluating basic urban projects developed by UNOPS; 6) Attending meetings and conferences organized by UN-Habitat partners; 7) Preparing reports for partners and internal stakeholders at various project stages; 8) Ensuring timely delivery of tasks; 9) Completing required training and courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course; 10) Adhering to United Nations security protocols and ensuring personal safety.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering or related fields, or a bachelor's degree in civil engineering along with an additional three years of relevant experience. A minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in urban project management in Brazil is required, along with professional experience in geometric design, earthmoving, and paving projects. Experience in informal settlements, urban infrastructure budgeting, and the development of land-use projects is desirable. Familiarity with nature-based solutions and previous experience within the UN System will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field, with a preference for candidates holding a postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu). This educational background is essential to ensure the candidate has the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to urban development projects.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in project and program management related to urban themes in Brazil. Candidates should have a strong background in geometric design and urban infrastructure projects, with additional experience in informal settlements and budget management being highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing urban development initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with local stakeholders and community members. Additionally, working knowledge of English or Spanish is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
This position is based locally in Brazil, and only nationals or permanent visa holders may apply. The contract duration is expected to be two months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The consultant will receive a monthly allowance upon approval of activity reports by the Head of Brazil Office. Travel may be required for project-related activities, and all travel expenses will be coordinated and financed by UN-Habitat according to United Nations travel guidelines.
