Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is dedicated to promoting sustainable development of human settlements and policies that ensure adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been expanding its portfolio in the country to support effective and sustainable urban policies. UN-Habitat has been active in Brazil since 2019, particularly through the Social Territories Programme, which aims to improve living conditions in vulnerable communities.
Job Overview: The Field Agent will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Social Territories Programme in Rio de Janeiro. This position involves conducting field research and assisting in various activities aimed at improving urban living conditions for vulnerable populations. The Field Agent will work closely with the UN-Habitat operational and technical teams, reporting directly to the Head of the Brazil Office. The role requires a proactive approach to engage with local communities, collect data through questionnaires, and provide logistical support for local events. The Field Agent will also be responsible for disseminating information about the Programme and ensuring that all activities align with the quality expectations of UN-Habitat. This position is expected to last for three months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Agent's responsibilities include: 1) Applying questionnaires to selected families in designated areas as outlined in the Programme’s workplan. 2) Collaborating with other Field Agents and the Local Manager to meet individual and collective quotas. 3) Visiting and assisting selected families as requested by the Programme Coordination. 4) Providing logistical and operational support during local events. 5) Participating in local meetings and attending training sessions. 6) Disseminating information about the Programme in designated areas. 7) Preparing and delivering a Monthly Activity Report in a timely manner. 8) Ensuring that technical activities meet the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and its partners. 9) Completing all required training courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS, within the first month of employment. 10) Performing additional duties as requested by the Programme’s team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, with additional relevant experience considered as a substitute for formal education. A minimum of one year of experience in research, data collection, or conducting interviews/questionnaires is required, preferably within vulnerable communities. Experience within the UN System is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in technological tools and have knowledge of data collection applications, such as Survey12
Good computer skills in Windows, including Microsoft Office and Excel, are also required. Competencies in professionalism, planning and organization, communication, teamwork, and knowledge management are essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma. Candidates with additional relevant experience beyond the educational requirement may also be considered. This flexibility allows for a broader range of applicants who may have gained valuable skills and knowledge through practical experience in related fields.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant work experience, particularly in research, data collection, or conducting interviews in vulnerable communities. Previous experience within the UN System is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the organization's processes and expectations. Candidates should have a proven track record of effectively managing workloads and meeting deadlines in a professional environment.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for engaging with local communities and conducting interviews. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in these languages is considered beneficial but not required for this specific role.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is offered on a local basis. Only nationals from Brazil or candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract is expected to last for three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The remuneration for this position is set at SB-2/1, amounting to BRL 2,389.08 (net amount).
