Job Overview: The Americas Regional Advisor is a pivotal role within the MSF Access team, reporting directly to the Head of the Americas Hub. This position is designed to deepen the understanding of regional contexts and to maintain and expand key networks and engagement with relevant stakeholders. The primary objective is to support the design and implementation of effective advocacy strategies directed towards governments, non-governmental stakeholders, pharmaceutical companies, and the research community in the Americas. The Regional Advisor will work closely with the MSF Access team to ensure that advocacy efforts align with the strategic objectives of MSF Access, both regionally and globally. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for advocacy and collaboration, as well as a commitment to advancing MSF's mission of improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Americas Regional Advisor will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: developing systems for continuous monitoring and analysis of policies and stakeholders relevant to MSF Access strategic objectives; analyzing regional trends and opportunities, providing strategic advice on new opportunities and threats; collaborating with MSF Access colleagues and operations to design and implement advocacy strategies; contributing to the development of regional analysis and advocacy strategies that contextualize global MSF Access objectives; strengthening engagement with key stakeholders in the region; representing MSF Access in relevant health platforms; acting as a spokesperson for the MSF Access Americas Hub; supporting MSF Operations in understanding medical-political issues affecting access; and managing short-term researchers or consultants on special projects related to the position.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Americas Regional Advisor position should possess a strong background in public health, international relations, or a related field. They should have demonstrated experience in advocacy, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in the context of healthcare access. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable strategies are essential. Candidates should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. A commitment to MSF's humanitarian principles and values is crucial.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a master's degree in public health, international relations, political science, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent professional experience may also be considered. Advanced training or certifications in advocacy, policy analysis, or healthcare access issues would be advantageous.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in advocacy, public health, or a related field, with a proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector. Experience in the Americas region, particularly in healthcare access issues, is highly desirable. Familiarity with MSF's work and humanitarian principles will be considered a strong asset.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position, given the regional focus on the Americas. Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders across the region. Additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.
