Job Overview: The position of Local National Consultant for Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis is designed to support the UNDP's initiatives in promoting sustainable economic practices in Montenegro. The consultant will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on implementing circular economy principles and fostering industrial symbiosis among local industries. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental sustainability, economic development, and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, and civil society organizations. The consultant will work closely with the UNDP team to develop strategies that enhance resource efficiency, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices within the local economy. The assignment is expected to last from December 25, 2025, to May 25, 2026, encompassing a total of 35 consultancy days, during which the consultant will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs that align with UNDP's goals and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting assessments of current industrial practices in Montenegro to identify opportunities for circular economy initiatives; developing and proposing strategies for implementing industrial symbiosis among local businesses; facilitating workshops and training sessions for stakeholders to raise awareness and build capacity on circular economy concepts; collaborating with local authorities and organizations to promote policy changes that support sustainable economic practices; preparing detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations; and providing ongoing support and consultation to ensure the successful implementation of proposed initiatives. The consultant will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented strategies and making necessary adjustments based on feedback and results.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, economics, or a related field, with a focus on sustainable development and circular economy principles. Proven experience in consulting or advisory roles related to industrial sustainability is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders are also critical for success in this role. Familiarity with the local context in Montenegro and existing industrial practices will be an advantage.
Educational Background: A minimum of a master's degree in environmental science, sustainable development, economics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in circular economy practices or industrial symbiosis will be considered a strong asset. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on the latest trends and best practices in sustainability and circular economy.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the fields of sustainability, circular economy, or industrial symbiosis. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or private sector companies on sustainability initiatives is highly desirable. The consultant should have a proven track record of successfully implementing projects that promote sustainable practices and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Montenegrin is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context or regional stakeholders, will be considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role.
