This position is crucial in supporting UNICEF's efforts in Lebanon, where ongoing humanitarian crises place children at risk of abuse and neglect. The officer will coordinate with sub-sector partners, facilitate inter-sectoral collaboration, and promote evidence-based interventions that align humanitarian action with national systems strengthening. The role encompasses various functions, including needs assessment and analysis, technical and operational support for program implementation, and capacity building. The officer will also engage in networking and partnership building to enhance the effectiveness of child protection initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: coordinating with various stakeholders in the child protection sector, representing UNICEF in relevant meetings and forums, conducting needs assessments and analyses to inform program strategies, providing technical and operational support to ensure effective program implementation, fostering partnerships with government institutions, NGOs, and UN agencies, and promoting innovation and knowledge management within the sector. The officer will also be tasked with building the capacity of local partners and stakeholders to enhance the overall child protection system in Lebanon.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, or a relevant social science field. A minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management, particularly in child protection-related areas, is required. Experience in inter-agency coordination in humanitarian settings is highly desirable, along with relevant experience in child protection program planning and management. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder meetings and build consensus among diverse actors, as well as experience in monitoring and evaluating child protection programs.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in fields such as international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or other relevant social sciences. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of child protection and social development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in social development planning and management, specifically in child protection-related areas. Candidates should have experience in inter-agency coordination within humanitarian or protracted crisis settings, particularly in the Protection or Child Protection sectors. Relevant experience in child protection program planning, implementation, and monitoring is also necessary, with a focus on translating field-level findings into evidence-based recommendations for program improvements.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or a local language, is considered an asset. Proficiency in multiple languages can enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in the region.
