Interns will work under the supervision of the RBAP Chief Economist, contributing to the analysis of the evolving development landscape in the Asia-Pacific region. The role involves a mix of on-site work in Bangkok for two months, followed by remote work. Interns will engage in data-driven analysis, assist in identifying strategic opportunities for human development, and conduct a tailored research project aligned with UNDP's priorities. Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for supporting the deployment of Project Vision and BOLD across Asia-Pacific, which includes analyzing how megatrends affect human development and growth. They will assist in identifying strategic 'big bets' for accelerating development and support data-driven analysis for high-level advisory engagements. Additionally, interns will undertake a research project on a relevant theme, producing a research paper by the end of the internship. Other responsibilities may include contributing to various activities within the unit, ensuring full integration into the team's daily work.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in international development and possess excellent communication skills. They should be outgoing, initiative-taking, and able to work effectively in multicultural environments. The ability to organize and structure tasks is essential, along with a positive attitude towards feedback and collaboration. Interns must also show sensitivity to cultural, gender, and age diversity.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level). Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the past year are also eligible. A field of study in economics, development studies, public policy, or related fields is required.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should possess strong analytical skills and familiarity with global and regional development issues. Experience in conducting rigorous research and analysis, including econometric techniques, is highly valued. Proficiency in relevant software for data analysis is considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing and communication skills required. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and all expenses related to the internship must be covered by the intern or their sponsoring institution.
