Job Overview:
The Project Assistant position is integral to the successful implementation and monitoring of various project activities related to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives. The role requires active participation in the improvement of canals and drainage channels, ensuring that construction and activities meet satisfactory standards before final payments are authorized. The Project Assistant will also assist in monitoring the rehabilitation of small-scale water supply systems and waste management efforts. This position involves significant administrative coordination, requiring effective liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, and process administrative actions. The Project Assistant will be responsible for drafting status reports that identify shortfalls in delivery and bring them to the attention of the supervisor, as well as preparing various forms of documentation including correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, and statistical tables. The role also includes responding to general information requests and inquiries, maintaining files and records, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities related to WASH initiatives.
  • Participate in small-scale improvements of canals and drainage channels.
  • Verify that constructions and activities are completed to a satisfactory standard before authorizing final payments.
  • Monitor the rehabilitation of small-scale water supply systems and waste management projects.
  • Support the administrative coordination of project implementation, including liaising with various organizational units and external parties.
  • Draft status reports identifying shortfalls in delivery and communicate these to the supervisor.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and presentations.
  • Respond to general information requests and inquiries.
  • Set up and maintain files and records. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or a school diploma with four years of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge and skills for preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and technical documentation.
  • Skills to conduct WASH assessments and technical evaluations.
  • Computer literacy in computer-aided engineering design is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, along with good skills in data analysis.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a school diploma and four years of relevant experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in the construction of WASH facilities and infrastructures, as well as experience in work supervision. Experience working with migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons is preferred. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in French and Haitian Creole is required for this position, both oral and written. Proficiency in English and Spanish is considered an asset, as IOM's official languages include these languages. Language proficiency will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Haiti will be eligible for consideration.
