Job Overview:
The position of Driver is crucial for the effective operation of the ILO's project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan, which focuses on promoting skills development in sustainable construction and eco-tourism services. The driver will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for the Office Director, senior officials, and other authorized personnel. This role requires not only driving skills but also an understanding of the local context and the ability to assist with protocol and customs formalities when necessary. The driver will also play a supportive role in the office by assisting with administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining office supplies. The position operates under the supervision of the National Project Coordinator, with a degree of operational independence in carrying out assignments. The driver will be expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism and discretion while representing the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and reliable driving services for the Office Director, senior officials, and authorized personnel.
  • Assist officials and visitors at the airport, including helping with protocol, visa, and customs formalities.
  • Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items as required.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs and prepare vehicle maintenance plans to ensure cost savings.
  • Conduct day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including minor repairs and arrangements for major repairs, ensuring vehicles are clean and in good running condition.
  • Ensure all required documents and supplies are available in assigned vehicles, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
  • Schedule drivers and vehicles for daily use when appropriate.
  • Inform the supervisor of registration and insurance procedures for office vehicles in a timely manner.
  • Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores. 1
  • Handle the mailing, collection, and distribution of documents and publications. 1
  • Arrange payment for office bills and perform data entry duties as needed. 1
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience with a safe driving record. Experience driving for a UN agency, diplomatic, or international organization is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, as well as good knowledge of local roads and conditions. Skills in minor vehicle repair and knowledge of chauffeur protocol and courtesies are essential. Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues and rules regarding vehicle management, including maintenance and repair of official vehicles. Basic computer skills for recording information in IT systems are also required.

Educational Background:
Completion of secondary school education is required for this position. A higher level of education may be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, particularly in driving roles. Experience with a UN agency or similar international organization is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with the protocols and standards expected in such environments.

Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of an official national language of the duty station, which is Urdu in Pakistan. Additionally, knowledge of an official language of the ILO, such as English, French, or Spanish, is required to facilitate communication within the organization and with international stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on various factors, including the availability of funds and the continuing need for the functions performed.
