Over the years, IOM has expanded its role in Pakistan, assisting the government in ensuring humane and orderly movement of people, protecting vulnerable migrant populations, and promoting international cooperation on migration issues. Pakistan is the third-largest refugee-hosting country globally, and IOM supports the government in implementing cross-border programming for Afghan migrants and refugees, contributing to peaceful coexistence with host communities. IOM Pakistan's strategic Comprehensive Action Plan for Afghanistan and Neighboring Countries (2021-2024) aims to support vulnerable communities hosting Afghan migrants and refugees, addressing humanitarian needs and reducing protection risks while enabling societies to transition towards sustainable development.
Job Overview: The WASH and Shelter Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the WASH & SNFI Programme Manager and direct supervision of the National WASH Officer. The incumbent will support the development and implementation of IOM WASH and Shelter activities, which include coordination with implementing partners, preparation of reports, data collection and analysis, and reviewing documentation shared by partners. The role involves ensuring that all required documentation aligns with IOM WASH & Shelter Programme checklists, updating and reviewing activity databases, and assisting in capturing and reporting information from the field in a timely manner. The assistant will also support the preparation of various reports, organize trainings and workshops, and provide guidance to team members on database usage. This position is crucial for maintaining effective communication and collaboration with partner organizations and ensuring the smooth operation of WASH and Shelter activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of WASH and Shelter activities in coordination with implementing partners.
Prepare and review reports, ensuring compliance with IOM WASH & Shelter Programme checklists.
Update and maintain WASH & Shelter programme activity databases regularly.
Assist in capturing, documenting, and reporting field information in a timely manner.
Compile data and organize contributions for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and project completion reports.
Organize trainings, workshops, and field visits as required.
Assist in compiling data analysis summaries and feedback for project reviews and evaluations.
Provide guidance to programme team members on database and tool usage.
Collect and organize field data, including pictures and videos, for project reporting. 1
Coordinate with partner organizations on contract-related matters and process financial payments. 1
Maintain and update databases to reflect ongoing programme activities. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma with six years of professional experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Development, International Relations, Political Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience supporting the implementation of WASH and Shelter activities in humanitarian contexts.
Experience in activity monitoring, information management, data analysis, and reporting.
Experience collaborating with implementing partners.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and partners.
Ability to compile, organize, and present information accurately.
Capable of working under limited supervision and following established procedures.
Effective collaboration with partners, service providers, local authorities, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the broader community.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with six years of professional experience or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, International Development, International Relations, or Political Sciences from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree, or six years if holding a high school diploma. Experience should include supporting the implementation of WASH and Shelter activities in humanitarian contexts, as well as activity monitoring, information management, data analysis, and reporting. Collaboration with implementing partners is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and a working knowledge of Urdu (oral and written) are required for this position. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Pakistan will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for 24 months.
