Job Overview:
The National Consultant for infrastructure development will play a crucial role in supporting the UNDP's initiatives in Bangladesh. This position involves providing expert advice and technical assistance in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects. The consultant will be expected to analyze existing infrastructure systems, identify gaps, and propose innovative solutions to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of these systems. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and other partners to ensure that infrastructure development aligns with national priorities and international best practices. The assignment is expected to last for a total of 75 days over a period of six months, during which the consultant will be required to deliver high-quality outputs that contribute to the overall goals of the UNDP in Bangladesh.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant for infrastructure development include but are not limited to: conducting comprehensive assessments of existing infrastructure projects; developing strategic plans for new infrastructure initiatives; collaborating with government officials and local communities to gather input and ensure stakeholder engagement; preparing detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations; providing technical guidance on project implementation and monitoring; ensuring compliance with UNDP policies and procedures; facilitating workshops and training sessions for local stakeholders; and contributing to the overall capacity building of local institutions involved in infrastructure development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must possess a strong background in infrastructure development, with a focus on project management and technical expertise. A proven track record of successfully managing infrastructure projects, particularly in developing countries, is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also required to effectively convey complex information to various audiences.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in civil engineering, urban planning, public administration, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with additional certifications or training in project management or infrastructure development will be given preference. A strong academic background, combined with practical experience in the field, is essential for success in this role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in infrastructure development, with a focus on project management and implementation. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or non-governmental organizations in a similar capacity is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local context in Bangladesh and previous experience in the region will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Bengali or other local languages is considered a strong advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is for 75 days over a period of six months. The consultant is expected to work full-time during this period, with flexibility in terms of location within Bangladesh. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
