Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (UNODET) was established on January 1, 2025, with a mission to advance cooperation on technology governance for a better future. The organization aims to ensure that digital innovation serves humanity, inclusivity, and sustainable development. UNODET operates under the guidance of the Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, focusing on key trends in technology and facilitating multi-stakeholder policy dialogue. The office engages with Member States, the technology industry, civil society, and other stakeholders to promote digital cooperation and coordinate efforts across the United Nations system.

Job Overview:
The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern position at UNODET is designed to support the organization's efforts in enhancing visibility and engagement through various digital platforms. The intern will have the opportunity to work in one of three focus tracks: Design & Social Media, Web & UX, or Editorial, depending on their background and skills. This role is crucial for promoting the mission of UNODET, which includes advising senior leadership on technology trends, advocating for digital cooperation, and facilitating dialogue on digital and emerging technologies. The intern will contribute to the implementation of the Secretary-General's vision on digital cooperation and assist in achieving the Goals by 203
  • The position is available for both full-time and part-time modalities, with an expected duration of 3-6 months, starting in January 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks depending on the chosen track. For Design & Social Media, duties include designing digital assets such as graphics and banners, drafting digital content for social media, and supporting coverage of key initiatives. In the Web & UX track, the intern will assist with updating webpages, conducting quality checks for content, and ensuring accessibility and consistency with design standards. For the Editorial track, responsibilities involve drafting and editing news pieces, contributing to storytelling projects, and refining text to align with ODET's values. All applicants must include a portfolio link showcasing their previous work, as applications without this will not be considered.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be in the final academic year of a university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level), or have graduated with a university degree as defined in the previous two points. Candidates should preferably have a background in relevant degree programs related to digital technologies, communications, or design.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a relevant degree. This could include degrees in communications, digital media, graphic design, or related fields. Graduate students or those in their final year of undergraduate studies are encouraged to apply, as well as recent graduates who meet the educational requirements.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills through their portfolio. Experience in digital content creation, social media management, web design, or editorial work will be beneficial. The internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the mission of UNODET, and who possess a strong interest in digital technologies and communications.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.

The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States will need to obtain a G4 visa and ensure they have valid employment authorization.
