Job Overview: The Protection Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and monitoring of IOM Libya's Accountability to Affected Population (AAP) activities within the Protection Division. The position requires close collaboration with various units and stakeholders to ensure effective programming that meets the needs of migrants and refugees. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring AAP activities, supervising third-party contractors and IOM Protection Assistants, and assisting in needs assessments and evaluations. The role also involves promoting two-way communication with affected populations, documenting good practices, and supporting administrative and operational matters related to AAP activities. The position is based in Tripoli, with travel to other areas of responsibility as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the planning, coordination, and monitoring of AAP activities in collaboration with relevant colleagues.
Supervise third-party contractors (CTG) and IOM Protection Assistants, including assigning tasks, planning activities, and monitoring performance.
Assist with needs assessment, monitoring, and evaluation processes in coordination with relevant colleagues and partners.
Support the implementation and monitoring of feedback and complaint mechanisms within IOM operations and assist in analyzing collected inputs to help identify trends and priority issues.
Promote two-way communication with migrants, refugees, and community members, providing information on IOM activities and engagements.
Assist with AAP training activities for staff and partners.
Coordinate initiatives and activities with PSEA focal points, gender, communication, outreach, and other relevant colleagues and partners.
Document context-specific AAP good practices and contribute to project proposals, reports, studies, PowerPoint presentations, and other documents as required.
Support administrative, financial, logistics, and operational matters linked to AAP activities. 1
Maintain organized and accurate records of all reports and data in accordance with IOM’s data protection principles. 1
Assist with informal translations of documents between English and Arabic as needed. 1
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution in Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, Human Rights, Communication, International Relations, Law, or a relevant field with four years of experience; or a high school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience.
Computer literacy and skills with specific proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Reliable, efficient, and professional with strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
Good analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, Human Rights, Communication, International Relations, or Law. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma and six years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have experience supporting migration and/or protection activities, as well as experience contributing to AAP initiatives. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office, and possess strong organizational skills. The ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential, along with good analytical skills and attention to detail.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is required for this position. A working knowledge of French is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Libya will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government.
