Job Posting Organization: SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters for nearly 40 years. The organization focuses on meeting vital needs such as access to water, food, and shelter. SI is particularly committed to combating diseases related to unsafe water, which is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Through its interventions, SI implements expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security and livelihoods. SI operates in approximately twenty countries, employing around 2000 people, including expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers. Since March 2020, SI has been active in France to improve living conditions for very precarious populations who are not connected to primary services such as drinking water and sanitation, making them particularly vulnerable. The projects target individuals living in degraded habitats such as slums, camps, or squats, who have very limited and often informal access to these basic services.
Job Overview: The Atlantic Zone Program Assistant operates under the authority of the Zone Coordinator and the program referents (EHA, Community Mobilization, etc.) of the France Operations. The assistant collaborates with logistics teams, EHA, and Community Mobilization. The primary purpose of this position is to participate in programmatic monitoring and reporting in support of zone coordinators. The assistant will also engage in technical design, capitalizing on interventions, and fieldwork alongside program managers. This role is crucial for ensuring the relevance, quality, and design of projects, as well as for supporting the operational aspects of program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the Program Assistant include participating in evaluation missions and technical diagnostics related to EHA, writing reports under the supervision of the zone coordinator, assisting in the technical design of activities, and monitoring the technical support hotline for associations and institutions. The assistant will update various programmatic management tools, assist in operational implementations such as installations and distributions, and maintain relationships with technical providers and volunteers. Additionally, the assistant will participate in the centralization and dissemination of procedures, guides, and tools related to EHA activities in France, contribute to the drafting of projects and reports for donors, and assist in the archiving of administrative and programmatic documents.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have studies in development, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, political science, or a scientific profile. Knowledge of Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (WASH) and/or humanitarian knowledge is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and GIS software (Earth, QGIS) is required. Strong analytical and writing skills, good synthesis abilities, proactivity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the principles and work of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL and possess a valid driver's license (Permis B).
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is essential for this position, with a focus on fields such as development studies, water and sanitation, project management, environmental health, or political science. A scientific background may also be suitable, particularly if it includes knowledge of WASH principles and practices.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in the humanitarian sector or related fields. While specific years of experience may not be mandated, familiarity with programmatic monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes is highly desirable. Experience in working with vulnerable populations and understanding the challenges they face in accessing basic services will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, given the location and target population. Proficiency in English is also advantageous, as it may be required for reporting and communication with international stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: This internship is based at the Solidarités International office in Nantes, with occasional field travel to Angers. The contract duration is six months, contingent upon student status. The internship offers a legal stipend of 15% of the hourly social security ceiling, calculated pro-rata based on actual hours worked per month (approximately 154 hours per month, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each). The organization also provides meal vouchers (60%) and transportation tickets (50%) as part of the benefits package.
