Job Posting Organization: The organization is part of the United Nations, specifically the Industry and Economy Division, Chemicals and Health branch, Knowledge and Risk Unit (KRU). The KRU promotes scientific approaches and knowledge for the sound management of chemicals, implementing resolutions from the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects. The Global Framework on Chemicals Unit (GFC) is an inclusive, voluntary global policy framework aimed at the safe and sustainable management of chemicals and waste. The organization operates globally, focusing on environmental issues and sustainable practices.
Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in assisting the Knowledge and Risk Unit in executing the Supply Chains Integrated Programme and supporting the Global Framework on Chemicals Secretariat. The primary responsibilities include updating and implementing the GEF 11177 knowledge management strategy, supporting the communications strategy, and establishing a visual identity and branding for the GEF 8 Supply Chains Integrated Programme. The consultant will also be responsible for setting up a knowledge management platform for the Supply Chains Integrated Programme and coordinating knowledge management among the eight child projects under the programme. Additionally, the consultant will manage the web portfolio of the GFC Secretariat, which includes the UNEP website and knowledge platform, and will support the Secretariat in various functions leading up to and following the International Conference.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include:
Updating and implementing the GEF 11177 knowledge management strategy.
Supporting the implementation of the GEF 11177 communications strategy.
Assisting in the development of a visual identity and branding for the GEF 8 Supply Chains Integrated Programme.
Establishing a knowledge management platform for the Supply Chains Integrated Programme.
Coordinating knowledge management among the eight child projects under the Integrated Programme.
Managing the web portfolio of the GFC Secretariat, including the UNEP website and knowledge platform.
Supporting the GFC Secretariat in preparation for, execution of, and follow-up to the International Conference.
Assisting the GFC Secretariat in its functions as outlined in the Global Framework on Chemicals documentation.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in computing, information technology, or a related field. In cases where candidates have university studies combined with an additional three years of qualifying experience, this may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of seven years of professional experience in web administration, content management, or graphic design using related software and/or web/digital standards is required. Experience in developing or supporting knowledge management is preferred, along with experience in web communications, including the use of tools such as Canva and Adobe InDesign. Experience working with IT developers and web designers to deliver digital products is also preferred, and having experience in an international and intergovernmental organization would be advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in computing, information technology, or a related field. Alternatively, university studies combined with three additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of professional experience in web administration, content management, or graphic design. Experience in developing or supporting knowledge management initiatives is preferred, and familiarity with web communications is desirable. Candidates should have experience working with IT developers and web designers to deliver digital products, as well as experience in an international and intergovernmental organization, which would be considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable but not mandatory.
