Job Overview: The Division Director position at the World Bank involves leading and managing operations across multiple countries in the Latin America and Caribbean Region, specifically Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. The role requires a strategic approach to addressing key challenges such as low productivity and growth, the need for quality jobs, and vulnerability to economic shocks. The Division Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the Country Partnership Frameworks (CPF), ensuring alignment with client demands and country contexts, and overseeing a significant lending program. This position demands a high level of engagement with country authorities and stakeholders, as well as the ability to navigate complex political and economic landscapes. The Division Director will also play a crucial role in fostering collaboration among various teams and partners to achieve sustainable development outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Division Director will be accountable for modeling World Bank Group leadership values and managerial behavior, ensuring the unit delivers on its commitments. Key responsibilities include serving as the Bank’s focal point for communications with country authorities, leading the implementation of the Country Partnership Frameworks, coordinating the Bank’s dialogue and strategy in the region, providing guidance on political and economic developments, overseeing portfolio management, and managing day-to-day operations of the country offices. Additionally, the Division Director will lead and motivate the country team, manage CMU resources, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the Bank's development efficiency. The role also includes embracing good corporate citizenship and acting as Head of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security for the Duty Station.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a PhD or Master’s degree in economics or a related field, with a minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively complex and responsible positions. They should be recognized experts within the World Bank Group or among academia, private sector actors, and policymakers, with a proven track record of applying practical knowledge and effective policy dialogue to achieve development results. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging with clients at senior levels, understanding macro/fiscal challenges, and demonstrating thought leadership through economic research and publications. Substantive experience working in client countries and familiarity with World Bank Group services is essential, along with the ability to manage complex work programs and budgets effectively.
Educational Background: A PhD or Master’s degree in economics or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of economic development and the ability to engage in high-level policy dialogue.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in roles of increasing complexity and responsibility. Candidates should have extensive experience managing large work programs, budgets, and portfolio monitoring, demonstrating proven results in their previous roles. Experience in engaging with senior-level clients and representing the organization at high-level international forums is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written Spanish is mandatory for this position, given the regional focus. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the primary language of communication within the World Bank Group. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
