Job Overview:
The Division Director for China, Mongolia, and Korea will play a pivotal role in overseeing the World Bank’s engagement in these regions. This position is crucial as the China program shifts towards a knowledge-focused engagement, emphasizing both inbound and outbound knowledge sharing. The Division Director will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Country Partnership Frameworks (CPF), ensuring that strategic choices are made to produce sustainable development results. The role requires close coordination with various country managers and operations managers to deliver effective dialogue, strategy, and work programs tailored to the unique contexts of each country. The Division Director will also be accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of the country offices, ensuring that the unit meets its commitments and adheres to World Bank policies and procedures. This position demands a strong focus on people management, resource allocation, and relationship management, both internally and externally, to enhance the Bank's impact in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Division Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: serving as the Bank’s focal point for communications with country authorities; developing and leading the implementation of the Country Partnership Frameworks (CPF); coordinating and delivering the Bank’s dialogue and strategy in collaboration with country managers; providing guidance on political, social, and economic developments; overseeing portfolio management and quality issues; managing the operations of country offices; leading and motivating the country team; ensuring effective resource management; managing complex political economies; and contributing to corporate policies and strategies. The role also includes security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security responsibilities, acting as Head of Security for the Duty Station, and representing the Bank in the country-level UN Security Management System.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD or Master’s degree in economics or a related field, with a minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively complex and responsible positions. They should be recognized experts within the World Bank Group or among academia, private sector actors, and policymakers, with a proven track record of applying practical knowledge and effective policy dialogue to achieve development results. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience engaging with clients at senior levels, representing the Bank at high-level international forums, and demonstrating thought leadership through recognized economic research and publications. Additionally, candidates should have in-depth experience working across various practice and disciplinary boundaries, managing complex work programs, budgets, and portfolio monitoring with proven results.

Educational Background:
A PhD or Master’s degree in economics or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Division Director has the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to address the complex challenges faced by the World Bank in the regions of China, Mongolia, and Korea.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in roles of increasing complexity and responsibility. Candidates should have extensive experience managing large work programs and budgets, as well as a proven ability to implement complex change management initiatives. Familiarity with the World Bank Group's services and deep technical knowledge in relevant sectors is also essential.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the regions of China, Mongolia, and Korea would be considered advantageous but is not explicitly required.
