Job Overview:
The position of Volunteer Proofreader is crucial for ensuring the quality and professionalism of research reports produced by CAMEALEON, a research and learning initiative under NRC. The volunteer will be tasked with proofreading three final reports, which are essential for dissemination to donors, ministries, and other stakeholders. The primary focus will be on correcting grammatical, spelling, and minor language errors, ensuring that the documents are polished and publication-ready. This role does not require extensive editing or structural changes, allowing the volunteer to concentrate on enhancing the clarity and professionalism of the text. The reports vary in length and complexity, with the first report containing approximately 14,615 words, the second 14,156 words, and the third 14,454 words, all excluding references and annexes. The volunteer's work will directly contribute to the effectiveness of CAMEALEON's communication efforts and its impact on humanitarian and social assistance in Lebanon.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Proofread three final reports for CAMEALEON, focusing on grammatical, spelling, and minor language errors.
  • Ensure that the documents meet the quality standards set by CAMEALEON for publication.
  • Review the text without making structural changes or extensive edits.
  • Exclude annexes and reference sections from the proofreading process.
  • Deliver polished documents suitable for dissemination to partners, donors, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the CAMEALEON team to understand the context and objectives of the reports.
  • Provide feedback on the clarity and professionalism of the documents, if necessary.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong command of the English language, with excellent proofreading skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify grammatical, spelling, and minor language errors.
  • Familiarity with academic or professional writing standards is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience in proofreading or editing is an advantage but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
A background in English, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with strong language skills and relevant experience will also be considered, regardless of formal educational qualifications.

Experience:
While prior experience in proofreading or editing is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement for this volunteer position. The emphasis is on having a strong command of the English language and the ability to deliver high-quality proofreading work.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic or French may be considered an asset but is not required.
