Job Overview:
The position of Promotor agropecuario/a in the Province of Zamora Chinchipe involves working closely with local agricultural communities to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security. The role requires the individual to engage with farmers, provide training on best practices, and facilitate access to resources and markets. The Promotor will be responsible for implementing agricultural development projects, ensuring that they align with UNDP's goals of sustainability and community empowerment. This position is crucial for fostering agricultural innovation and improving the livelihoods of local farmers. The Promotor will also be expected to monitor and evaluate the impact of the initiatives undertaken, providing feedback and recommendations for future projects. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Promotor agropecuario/a include:
  • Conducting assessments of local agricultural practices and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Developing and delivering training programs for farmers on sustainable agricultural techniques.
  • Facilitating access to agricultural inputs, such as seeds and fertilizers, and ensuring their proper use.
  • Supporting farmers in the establishment of cooperatives or associations to enhance their bargaining power in the market.
  • Collaborating with local government and NGOs to implement agricultural development projects.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of agricultural initiatives and reporting on outcomes.
  • Providing technical assistance and advice to farmers on crop management and pest control.
  • Promoting the use of environmentally friendly practices and technologies in agriculture.
  • Engaging with community members to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable agriculture. 1
  • Documenting best practices and success stories to share with stakeholders and for future reference.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Promotor agropecuario/a position include:

Experience:

Familiarity with the local agricultural context and challenges faced by farmers in the Province of Zamora Chinchipe will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Knowledge of indigenous languages spoken in the area would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication with local communities. Proficiency in English is also beneficial but not required.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to last for a period of 210 effective working days within an 11-month calendar timeframe.
