Job Overview: The Local CoordinationSupport Assistant will play a crucial role in the project titled 'Promoting Sustainable Tourism in Mongolia through UNESCO Cultural and Geo Heritage.' This project is designed to enhance community-based sustainable tourism models by leveraging Mongolia's rich natural, geological, and cultural resources. The position requires the assistant to engage closely with local authorities, communities, herder groups, mines, tourism operators, and UNESCO’s national partners to ensure effective project implementation. The assistant will be responsible for providing logistical support, coordination, communication, and linguistic assistance on-site, particularly in the pilot areas such as Khanbogd. This role is essential for facilitating smooth operations and ensuring that field activities are conducted efficiently and effectively, thereby contributing to the overall success of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Coordination Support Assistant will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Providing logistical support for field activities, including organizing transportation, accommodation, and other necessary arrangements for project staff and stakeholders.
Coordinating communication between local communities, authorities, and project teams to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of project materials and reports.
Facilitating meetings and workshops with local stakeholders to promote project objectives and gather feedback.
Supporting the collection and analysis of data related to project activities and outcomes.
Ensuring that all project activities comply with UNESCO’s policies and guidelines.
Acting as a liaison between UNESCO and local partners to foster strong relationships and facilitate project implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and independently. Proficiency in project management and coordination is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and community engagement, with a background in tourism, cultural heritage, or related fields being highly desirable. Familiarity with UNESCO’s mission and values is also important.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as tourism management, cultural heritage, environmental science, or social sciences is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in project management or sustainable tourism will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in project coordination or support, particularly in the fields of sustainable tourism, community development, or cultural heritage. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is preferred, as is familiarity with the local context in Mongolia.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Mongolian or other local languages is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.
