Job Overview:
The Policy-Writing Consultant (Audit and Risk) will play a crucial role in updating and writing guidance documents related to nonprofit governance, specifically focusing on Audit and Risk. This position is part of UNICEF's Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) based in Geneva, which manages relationships with National Committees for UNICEF. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing and researching existing governance documents, aligning them with current best practices, and ensuring they meet the needs of stakeholders. The role requires a deep understanding of nonprofit governance structures and processes, particularly in relation to audit and risk management, to enhance board effectiveness and promote good governance practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key tasks, including:
  • Reviewing and updating existing guidance documents on nonprofit governance topics related to audit processes, enterprise risk management, and the roles of audit and risk subcommittees.
  • Conducting research on the latest trends and best practices in nonprofit governance, particularly in the areas of audit and risk management.
  • Consulting with relevant stakeholders to gather feedback and incorporate it into the guidance documents.
  • Developing technical advisory and training resources as needed.
  • Preparing a comprehensive list of references and materials consulted during the research process. The consultant will deliver several outputs, including inception reports, draft guidance documents, and final versions of updated guidance documents, all of which must be submitted by specified deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in fields such as Finance, Risk, Audit, Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Policy. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) combined with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in policy or guidance development, including research and writing, is required. Demonstrated experience in developing governance policy and guidance documents, as well as capacity-building materials, is essential. Candidates should also have knowledge of nonprofit governance structures and processes, particularly in relation to internal controls, audit, and risk management.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in relevant fields such as Finance, Risk, Audit, Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Policy is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) may be accepted if combined with two additional years of relevant work experience.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in policy or guidance development, including research and writing, is required. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing corporate or nonprofit governance policy and guidance documents, as well as capacity-building materials. Knowledge of nonprofit governance structures and processes, particularly in relation to audit and risk management, is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable, which would enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
